Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at becoming a mainstream superstar were unsuccessful. Two labels signed her and then dismissed her prior to having made any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title track was a jolly and sly single that garnered little or no attention. "I Kissed" a Girl was a more assertive ode sexism with a sharp edged electro-pop style. Some critics accused the song of encouraging homosexual relations, while others claimed that the song's raunchy lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl, a combination of titillation coupled with a sophisticated tune, allowed I Kissed a Girl to become a hit number one across the world and boost sales for her album, One of the Boys. With its bouncy sharp-tongued song, the second Hot N Cold also proving well-loved, the album which Perry created herself ultimately registered the sales of over 3 million copies across the United States.
